We’re proud to announce that we (Big Cat) are launching our new brand identity and website this week. Big Cat’s Design Director, Marv Robson talks about the journey taken towards evolving our look and feel.

Having led the design department for 4 years, I have intermittently tweaked and refreshed the existing brand to my liking as the company has grown, expanded and adapted over the years, however, until last year, the (eagerly awaited) chance of starting afresh was not on the card.

Please note: Apologies in advance, if you don’t know me that well I love a good pun. Niceties aside, Let’s bring the punder…

Fast forward to 2017; where the culmination of an accomplished director-level team forming, a flurry of new and exciting clients won and a newly focussed vision for the future has lead us to this point. The understanding that a pride is only as strong as its weakest cub, has helped us strengthen our full service offering – driven by our belief in Creative Clarity. Whether it’s advertising, design, PR or digital, we think the most effective communications are the simplest, and the most effective way to get to the heart of any problem is by being direct, honest and open.

This straight-forward way of working is underpinned by 5 core values: Curiosity, Accomplishment, Ambition, Realism and most importantly Giving a damn! And so with a clear vision, a strong sense of values and a string of successes as a result, we felt it only right that the mane finally matched the heart.

So let’s dig our claws into the skin of this new brand. After a million and one different sketches, scamps and scribbles collectively crafted by my team, we finally landed on our feet. Wanting to put our stamp on the marketing communications market both nationwide and locally, it only felt right to take a swipe at our visual identity. Utilising a geometric paw print to symbolise our focus, vision, continuity and future pathway – this distinct mark is formed from shards of vivid orange hues (paying homage to our heritage).

The addition of a contrasting blue/grey palette and the contemporary but distinguished Mr Eaves font forms the mettle of the visual identity. The paw print icon can then be cropped and angled to create numerous abstract graphics to be utilised across all forms of media and touch points. This is showcased on our new website where we have adopted this treatment across our homepage and various banners.

Speaking of our new website, I have bared witness to, and developed many forms and iterations that never came to fruition. Thankfully though, much to the help of our digital agency (Apex), we now stand triumphant. It has definitely been worth the wait (and I hope you guys think so too) as it is now fully optimised to direct our clients and potential new business leads to their specific interests. Whether it be a particular service or sector, the easy-to-navigate platform now showcases all our juicy accolades and knowledge in the form of a plethora of case studies, blog posts and team bios.

I look forward to nurturing our new brand and website, tweaking and developing as we do, to ensure our best stripes are always on show. And so, it wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t finish this piece with a fitting pun to introduce what has been a lot of blood, sweat and tears over the last few years from all the pride. Without further ado, feline positive, I give you the future of Big Cat…
