The PR Team End 2015 on a High Note…

Friday 11th December, 2015

It’s been an action packed, fun filled year for the PR team, so picking just one of our highlights wasn’t the easiest of tasks.  2015 has been Birmingham’s busiest and most exciting year for over a decade, so working with Grand Central, the UK’s newest premium shopping and dining destination, really does have to go down in Big Cat’s history of proudest moments!

Grand Central Station, Birmingham.

In addition to working on the launch of one of the city’s biggest developments, another highlight was the opportunity to do something a little different.  Working with Karaoke Box, a brand new karaoke cocktail bar which opened last month at Regency Wharf, the PR team descended on the streets of Birmingham to deliver an exciting stunt to unsuspecting revellers.

It is universally known that people just can’t help but sing along to a stereo in a car. And why not? No one else can hear. You’re in a secluded space with only an unlucky passenger able to tune into your dulcet tones. The truth is, people love to sing but, hate for other people to hear. We channelled this idea into our latest PR stunt ‘Cabbie-Okie’ ahead of the official VIP launch of Karaoke Box.

We hired a cab for a day, decked out the interior with mics, screen, lights and headphones and compiled a list of the top karaoke song s to create the ultimate karaoke experience.

We approached groups across iconic locations in the city including the Birmingham Library, Colmore Row, Selfridges and Symphony Hall. We also pulled into Taxi Ranks to grab commuters, offering a free taxi ride in exchange for a sing song to a karaoke classic.

Of course, the whole experience was filmed to create compelling video content generating buzz for the official launch and first public weekend.

The content was made up of three short clips from a variety of taxi punters, which was then seeded out across Karaoke Box’s social channels with additional spend dedicated to amplifying posts on Facebook and Twitter.

Far from a gimmick, the stunt pulled in even the most cynical of people creating great visual content and playing up to the client’s exclusive offering of private karaoke rooms! You can watch the video here.

The Big Cat team were also thrilled to be involved in the VIP Launch Party, which saw attendance from some of Birmingham’s most prominent media publications and business – and Professor Green!

It has been a really fantastic year for the PR team, and we can’t wait to see what 2016 holds for us!
