Big Cats' Happy Spots 1280X720
11th September 2019

Big Cats' Top Happy Spots.

September marks Happy Cat Month, so we thought we’d share our pick of some of the fantastic places we have to hang out and enjoy in Birmingham.

Craig, PR and Social Media Account Manager:

There is a criminal lack of hype surrounding Birmingham’s live music scene. Some of my favourite places to go in the city are its music venues with their rich history and bright future.

Of course there are the larger arenas and academy sized venues, but the underground is where the real scene thrives with some my favourites being Hare & Hounds, The Flapper, Mama Roux and The Asylum.

You’ll often find me at the barrier at many of these places enjoying some of the world’s exciting and up-and-coming bands.

Anthony, our Biggest Big Cat:

Everyone knows that the city is in the middle of a renaissance. But mostly I love the ‘burbs.

Bearwood, Moseley, Stirchley, Harborne, Kings Heath, Bournville and Edgbaston, to name only a handful, are awash with artisan, niche, boutique, and downright cool shops of all stripes, as well as bakeries, pubs, galleries, venues, Lebanese cafes and Michelin-starred restaurants. Birmingham near-suburbs are a bohemian melting pot of creatives.

I also love their parks and green spaces. With two young kids and a dog, we’re blessed with so much green space in the ‘burbs. From Cannon Hill to Stirchley, and being less than half an hour away from Lickey Hills, Waseley Hills and Clent Hills, we’re literally spoiled for choice. What’s not to love!

Heather, Communications Director:

The Everyman cinema in the Mailbox – so nice to sit in the big comfy chairs! Feels like you’ve gone back in time to how cinemas used to be.

Sia, Digital Account Executive:

Digbeth because I get to see all the creative talent in the street art and I think a lot of inspiration can come from that. Also it’s just a cool place to hang out.

But truthfully, my flat is the best place to hang out because of the view of Grand Central, the trains and big city buildings.

Emily, Communications Senior Account Executive:

Seeing as I don’t live here and only really come in for work, I don’t know a lot of places, but my go-to is Digbeth Dining Club. Street food is my absolute guilty pleasure, I literally can’t say no to a food festival, and as a vegan there are usually loads of interesting options that I’ve not tried before (especially if you hit them up on their veggie & vegan Thursdays). It doesn’t hurt that it’s just round the corner from the o2 Academy, where I can also be found regularly.

I love Digbeth in general because there’s loads of cool things to see, some great independents and it’s a pretty busy area.

Amy, Senior Marketing Account Manager:

I work and live in busy Birmingham so it’s lovely to have peaceful places like the canal to explore on a sunny day. Plus, we have more canals than Venice!
