Where to Eat in Birmingham this National Vegetarian Week

Monday 13th May, 2019

At Big Cat, we have our paws on the pulse of the hospitality industry and pride ourselves on keeping on top of all the biggest trends and new restaurant openings in Birmingham. This week marks National Vegetarian Week so we’re sharing some of the best places to eat veggie in our city.

Best for brunch

Although not solely vegetarian, the hipster-style Urban Café has some delicious options for vegetarian and vegan breakfasts; the vegetarian alternative to the “full English” serves meat free sausages with all the usual trimmings. They serve their breakfasts all day, so if you get chance pop along and order something to surprise your taste buds.

Free from fast food

We all have our usual favourites for grabbing a bite on the go, but if you’re avoiding meat this National Vegetarian Week, head to Not Dogs in Grand Central and treat yourself to food that is #meatywithoutthemeat (in their words). This delicious take on the original frankfurter is suitable for both vegetarians and vegans and offers a surprisingly similar meat alternative. They also offer vegan burgers and vegan “chicken” nuggets.

For a nice slice

You can pretty much grab a good vegetarian pizza from anywhere, because let’s be honest, who doesn’t like a classic margherita, but if you’re looking for something extra special, then head to The Stable. The Stable is a cider and pizza bar (what a perfect combination) and they serve, in our opinion, the best sourdough pizza in town. They even have a selection of vegan pizzas and desserts to choose from too!

A chip off the old block

There’s nothing like it – a traditionally British portion of fish and chips, everyone’s parents’ favourite take out. Well if you’re looking for some “vish” and chips to fulfil a craving, then you definitely need to check out The Veggie Chippy. They have an extensive menu of meat alternatives for all your “chippy chip” favourites, including vegetarian chicken, beef and fish – who knew you could even get vegetarian fish?!

To tickle everyone’s fancy

If you’re after fine dining in a fancy restaurant then 1847 is the place for you. It’s not the cheapest restaurant on the list, but it’s vegetarian fine dining at its best. So if an elegant dinner experience is what you’re after this National Vegetarian week, then sit down and enjoy a range of deliciously alternative dishes and meat free dishes at 1847.

So, if you’re going to try to give vegetarianism a go, hopefully we’ve helped you find some meat alternatives to allow you to still enjoy all your favourite meals this National Vegetarian Week.
